These sessions gave me lots of tools to manage anxiety and to change the way I deal with negative thoughts. They are easy to understand and with practice make a real difference to my day. Each session was tailored to my needs and I felt Jo really took the time to listen and understand my worries. I could see that she used multiple therapy techniques to help me as I needed it.
What people say about me
I believe that since having therapy with Dr Jo Waddell, I have become a much more confident and independent person and I am now able to see my life in a much more positive light and I believe that I can use the practices learnt in each session to move forward with my life in a constructive manner. I also believe that my fear of balloons has changed and after 20 years I have now been able to pop a Balloon after just one session.
I would highly recommend Dr Jo Waddell, she is very understanding and passionate about her work. She uses past life experiences to link each practice to show an example and this was incredibly helpful. She has a very calming and approachable personality and she is very adaptable to your needs. She is clearly very knowledgeable and this shows in the changes mentioned above, with regards to my fear and also my mood in general.
Thank you for coming to talk to the Petersfield u3a Health Matters group about reducing our fears and removing the gremlins that hold us back. More than 50 people benefited hugely from your excellent presentation, demonstrations and sensitive answering of questions. Your hour and a half session not only introduced us to the essentials of NLP but also introduced ideas from other related approaches to enhancing mental health. You highlighted the importance of understanding the workings of the unconscious mind but also, importantly, demonstrated empathetically and sensitively how different exercises and approaches can positively change our feelings and reactions to life’s events.
After your session we were approached by a large number of people asking for you to return to share more of your skills, knowledge and treatments with us. Our members found your adoption of a holistic approach that allows the integration of the best of advances in physical and mental health to be particularly inspiring. By including an individual resource pack you also provided each of us with some tools and ideas to take ideas forward for ourselves. We look forward to you returning to Petersfield u3a to share more of your ideas and treatments.
I had been in an emotional and verbally abusive relationship for 20 plus years and with Jo’s guidance and help, I have now started to create a newer, stronger, better version of myself.
I was unsure at first as to how much the sessions were going to help me, but I knew I needed to do something radical to help with the healing process. I found our first session extremely difficult, as I shared my experiences with Jo. Not once did she make me feel uncomfortable with what I was sharing. I felt physically and emotionally drained at the end of it, but also empowered and ready to start thinking and acting differently.
At the end of our sessions, I felt sad to be leaving Jo, as she had made me feel so much better about myself and my future. I now have a new toolbox kitted out with skills and coping mechanisms that I can use, whenever I feel challenged.
As I am now embarking on my new life and the journey ahead of me, Jo will always be by my side. I will be forever thankful.
Jo was amazing! I was sceptical at first as I have suffered with anxiety my whole life and when I was about to receive treatment from Jo, I was the worst place I had ever been. I didn’t believe that a few sessions would be able to make me feel like a completely different person. But to my pleasant surprise, they did. I feel so much happier now and less anxious. My family and friends have noticed how much more relaxed I seem and how I am much less irritable. Jo really tailored the sessions based on my needs and what she thought would help best. Better still, she would ask if the methods she used were working and if not, she’d try something different as she wants you to get the best from each session. She was very friendly, approachable and warm and I felt I could talk to her about personal and traumatic events in my life. She helped me overcome these traumas and has changed my emotional connection to them, making me feel so much happier and less anxious as a result. I feel like a completely different person! Her warmth and expertise helped change my perspective on life and how to deal with problems when they arise. I cannot recommend Jo enough; thank you Jo!
“I was recommended to see Jo after struggling with confidence and anxiety, specifically around public speaking, which I was to face a lot of as I was embarking on my MA. Where I had previously had unsuccessful counselling and cognitive behavioural psychotherapy for these issues, I started the year feeling I may have to quit my course from the fear of presenting. After a few sessions with Jo I did every presentation that was required of us, including one to 50 people, and ended the year presenting my viva to multiple professors and my cohort. Jo has taught me vital lessons about myself, namely to nurture my health and well-being; subsequently I feel stronger, confident, and happy.”
Jo is a passionate, caring and knowledgeable practitioner who is able to quickly identify and support her patients. I would highly recommend Jo to anyone who is struggling with life. Jo has changed my life for the positive and I feel reassured to know that I have a safety net when times get tough.
Jo and I met whilst filming Embarrassing Bodies in 2012. Since then, she has gone on to become a close friend and mentor. Her work is incredible and life-changing and I’m delighted to endorse her.”
I thought you might like to know what an amazing impact your help has had on me. It’s actually quite hard to describe, the experience with you has been quite transformative. It is as if my world has turned on in glorious technicolour. I am lighter in soul as if suddenly I have realised I have a right to exist! Quite amazing. And so far sustained. Thank-you.
I signed up for the NLP course after a recommendation from a colleague who described it as ‘life-changing’. I was not disappointed. As a practising GP, Jo understands the pressures we face every day and the challenges involved in our professional lives. The course was engaging and interactive from the start with Jo allowing delegates to set the agenda, making the areas covered relevant to our needs.
We learned techniques for helping patients which are practical, easy to teach in a ten minute consultation and actually work! Jo also addressed our own personal needs, giving us tools to help our resilience and allowing us to reflect on our general life aims. I have already used some of these tools in surgeries and practised techniques for improving my own focus, energy and confidence. I will be reaping the benefits of this day for many years to come and recommend that anyone who has the opportunity to attend one of these courses grabs it with both hands.
As an ex GP trainer, TPD, clinical lecturer and now a GP Postgraduate Deputy Director I have never been on such a well facilitated course that resulted in a bit of ‘magic’ for all the attendees. Thank you, you have reminded me that as a GP (and a mother!) I need to refocus my energies on my own confidence building: gym and tonic essential for all busy minds.
I was a NLP sceptic until I commissioned and attended this course for GP trainees; a rare moment of inspiration and excitement about training. If you want to commission a course for GP trainees that result in smiles, tears, joy and inspiration with a cross the board set of positive feedback sheets then commission this: you will not regret it.
A must for EVERYONE even those who know the theory behind NLP.
I attended the NLP Foundation Course because managing stress and improving efficiency sounded ideal. The course actually covers so many aspects of life in general that they could not possibly be listed. It has been an eye opener and has led me on to read and explore a little further. The course was delivered in an enthusiastic and professional style and has been of great use in the consultation room and the coffee room at work not to mention life in general. There is obviously so much more to learn but this one day course provided a great introduction. Thanks, Jo.
I was amazed at what a subtle change in one’s thinking could do to the working environment. I did not know that such a thing as NLP existed till late last year. I have now been introduced into a completely enlightening and exciting new world of NLP through Jo Waddell. The course was easy, enjoyable, enlightening, educative, positive, practical and very useful. It has unlimited potential when used regularly. I can see the significant benefits already in my personal and working lives. The only issue is that it should ideally be a way of life which needs practice. I am hoping to attend some refresher courses to keep on track and continue to enjoy the benefits life long !
Jo Waddell’s one day NLP foundation course was very interesting and enjoyable. There was a perfect mixture of background information and practical exercises. Jo created a very relaxed and safe environment, in which people could participate at the level that felt right for them. I feel really inspired to use the techniques going forward. I would thoroughly recommend this course to anyone interested in NLP.
“I have worked with Dr.Jo Waddell for 12 years now. We met when we were both GPs in practice looking for ways to help our patients when the conventional routes have been exhausted. We have trained together in many Complementary modalities, including hypnosis and various body-mind techniques, which we have incorporated into our professional practice. Dr.Jo is a highly experienced GP with an extensive expertise extending well beyond conventional Western Medicine. She is a great listener with a gift for identifying where attention will most usefully be placed to help her patients and clients achieve positive and lasting change where it is required. She combines these skills with a thorough yet gentle approach and a keen sense of humour. She teaches by example. I have no hesitation in endorsing and supporting her unique work as a doctor, coach and teacher.”
I just wanted to let you know that my flight back to SA was an absolute dream, I didn’t take any diazepam beforehand and even got to the gate early (normally I’m the last on the plane as I’m trying to fit in as much wine as possible to calm my nerves!). I even looked out of the window during take-off – something I’ve never been able to do! I didn’t panic at all, I can’t believe how much of a difference just one session with you has made!
I’ve been raving about you to everyone… Thank you so much for taking the time to help me, it really is life changing and I never thought I could happily get on a plane.
Jo Waddell has worked with us several times on the flying without fear programme and helped many people 1-1 to beat their fears. She has shown flexibility in stepping in as a team leader and brought her own unique style to the presentation to a group of 100 + nervous people using her combined GP and NLP experience. Her comment that the techniques used are as powerful as anything written on a green prescription had the delegates fascinated. Several people have emailed since the course to say how much her well timed 2 minute intervention reassured them.
Thanks again for yesterday; I wish every day could be as fun and successful as that.
NLP – a very useful tool for GPs to use in their personal and professional lives. I found this course gave me a new way of looking at my own problems on a personal and professional level and make changes that I had felt unable to do so. Techniques to reduce stress have been very useful in consultations with patients suffering from anxiety and to help GP trainees coping with finding a work-life balance. It has also helped my trainees to understand the GP consultation in its wider context and how they can become more holistic practitioners.
Please may I say very big thank you for all your help which was gratefully received. As you know I am a 56 year old lady for whom 40 of those years have lived with depression and anxiety, since a childhood trauma which I was never able to let go of.
